3RD YEAR WORK

Picture1.jpg

Following my 3rd Year Project, I have uploaded the progression of my year through the presentations below. My intent this year is to push the boundaries of design by creating a new home furnishing line of products using an unfamiliar material in the current industry, Wool and Resin. My aim is to use the sustainable by-product in collaboration with other materials to create a truly innovative design that will become a ‘must-have’ in a home. I aim to give back to the suppliers of wool by giving fairer prices for their renewable by-product.  I decided to call the project 'Priosect Gwlan' for the Instagram page, It translates to 'Project Wool', a page to show development and raise more awareness to the wool industry.

GALLERY

In the gallery below, I tested how to wash the resin from home by doing a soak method, using no harmful chemicals. I also tested the resin and wool blend by curing the wool and resin in different forms to see how the wool reacts. I also tested by seeing what colours enhance the wool best in the resin. I found the PEC bio-resin easy and safe for home use but does take some time to cure and costs a higher price for being more sustainable. For the next resin testing, I will buy a water-based resin by Jesmonite to see if it gives the same results, this resin in half the price and still sustainable.

ACUMEN ACADEMY

This year I also took part in a 9 week course focusing on human centered design. This opportunity was raised my by university lecturers during the summer therefore another student at my course and me decided to take on the course. Completing this course enables me to use the IDEO toolkits to the full potential and to highlight the importnce of empathic design and answering the users needs.
